Real Space

a place for people who care about cities.

︎ Helsinki // Pursimiehenkatu 13

We facilitate critical inquiry, catalyse informed debate, and discover shared values; to become a place where the public and the private, the local and the global, the radical and the conventional, the theoretical and the practical, can come together, learn, unlearn, and wrestle with how we want to live together in our cities.
︎It is a space for the city,
in the city.

In the city
Our societies and our planet are undergoing rapid transformations. This is not simply a matter of technological or economic evolution. It is also a matter of political and social choice. To make the right choices, we must collectively evaluate and improve the policies and practices that will shape our collective future.

Debate
Facilitating critical inquiry and catalyse informed debate about the future of our cities. A place where the public and the private, the local and the global, the radical and the conventional, the theoretical and the practical, can come together, learn, unlearn, and wrestle with how we want to live together in our cities.

Hosting
Mediating dialogue, exchange, and collaboration between civil society and its institutions - academia and the public, experts and non-experts, young and old, and local and global. We engage the public in critical questioning and producing shared declarations on pressing urban topics. We invite you to smuggle new ideas, lead conversations, run workshops...

Takeovers
Enabling active participation, collective agency, and citizens' science. We want to help foster a more inclusive and democratic city in which everyone has the means for shaping it. We provide space for online communities searching for a Real Space in the city to coordinate, build, create, experiment, and perhaps even share their ideas  with the public.

Critique
Unravelling urban challenges and critically engaging with the issues that will shape the future of the commons. We call it the Blue Ribbon Project: a workshop to analyse the feasibility of bold institutional agendas and ground them with data and speculative design scenarios.
