SPIN Unit’s chapter in a bilingual EKA research book arguing Tallinn’s leftover urban fragments can be computed, scored, and strategically connected — not just left as gaps in the plan.
Academic research doesn’t always end in a client report — sometimes it ends in a book. This bilingual EKA publication, produced with real-estate partner KAPITEL, brought together several research strands on Tallinn’s future, with SPIN Unit contributing the data-driven urban analytics chapter.
Published by the Estonian Academy of Arts’ Faculty of Architecture in partnership with KAPITEL, one of the largest Baltic commercial real-estate companies, as the culminating output of a multi-semester EKA research programme on Tallinn’s development. SPIN Unit’s chapter, “META-CITY UNFINISHED,” is built directly on the metaLINN+8 study.
SPIN Unit’s chapter sits alongside contributions on automated pedestrian-mobility sensing (custom-built WiFi hardware), drone/photogrammetry 3D city modelling, and a modular timber “pattern housing” system — together framing Tallinn’s future through both data analysis and buildable design.
Turned a commissioned urban-analytics study into a lasting academic publication credential for SPIN Unit, and placed its methodology alongside novel sensing and buildable-design research from the same EKA cohort.
