An international network of academics and professionals.

SPIN Unit combines academic research and technical practice to find new approaches to urban analytics. Born as an academic endeavour in Tallinn in 2012, it has grown into a network of researchers and practitioners developing methods, strategies and tools for cities, ministries and international organisations — while staying reserved for the collective projects we truly believe in.

Our approach, metamorphology, reads spatial configuration, human activities and values together: not just how a place is built, but how people actually use it and what they believe it's worth. The repository on this site is the method's evidence — every study, with its data sources and its reports, open.

The practice runs from two offices — Helsinki and Tallinn — and develops and runs CoPlanAI, a platform for collaborative urban planning; it earlier co-created UrbanistAI.
