City Unfinished — Museum Exhibition

Research reports rarely reach a general public. This exhibition took the multi-year EKA “City Unfinished” research programme — including SPIN Unit’s data-driven urban analysis — out of the report and book and into a public museum space.

Staged at the Estonian Museum of Architecture from January to May 2021, the public capstone of a 2017–2019 EKA Faculty of Architecture research project previously published as the bilingual “City Unfinished / The City Uncomputed” book, with real-estate partner Kapitel again supporting. Curated by Johan Tali, with exhibition design by Raul Kalvo.

Organised around six themes — planning practices, green networks, centres, prefabricated housing districts, “city un-computed” data analytics, and Tallinn 2050 — combining GIS maps and infographics on illuminated display tables, a suspended ring of aerial photography, video interviews, and a physical 1:20,000 3D-printed model of Tallinn where box height represented population density.

Brought years of academic urban research — including SPIN Unit’s own contribution — to a genuinely public audience, extending the reach of research that would otherwise have stayed in academic and municipal circles.
