Stockmann Building — Rail Baltica Pedestrian Flow Analysis

Redeveloping a landmark building next to a brand-new international rail station raises a very concrete design question: where should people actually be able to get in and out, and how does that change once thousands of new rail passengers start passing through every day?

Commissioned in connection with the Rail Baltica station district redevelopment around Riga’s historic Stockmann building, near the city’s Old Town and Rātslaukums (Town Hall Square).

Used AI/computer-vision analysis of six existing CCTV camera feeds around the site to build real origin-destination and directional pedestrian flow data, separated by weekday and weekend. This fed an agent-based model built in GAMA, simulating current pedestrian flow and then testing four alternative entrance and pedestrian-street configurations proposed by the project architects, alongside a baseline.

Delivered as a comparative scenario report, with camera-based data collection running roughly a month, followed by simulation and scenario testing.
